International Partnerships

Illinois State is proud to support a variety of official linkages with universities abroad in nearly 20 countries for one-way and two-way student programs, and professional development opportunities for the exchange of faculty both here and abroad.

International linkages play an important role in internationalizing our campus, and aims to increase the number of exchange institutions and expand into new countries so that opportunities for connections continue to grow.

The Office of International Engagement is currently updating the process for developing new partnerships.  More information will be available soon. If you have any questions now, please contact OIE via email at internationalengagement@IllinoisState.edu.

Memoranda of Understanding

At Illinois State, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is seen as the first step in the process of developing an agreement that enables the sending of students or faculty abroad. MOUs are officially signed by the universities involved, but are usually very brief with minimal detail. An MOU can be likened to a handshake or a gesture of goodwill, indicating that both parties are interested in developing a subsequent agreement.

Following the signing of an MOU, the creation of an actual study abroad agreement comes as a result of both institutions investing considerable time outlining detailed terms of a partnership that are mutually beneficial. Once details have been clarified and agreed upon, university officials then sign an official agreement document which establishes a formal relationship and allows students and faculty to be sent abroad.

Illinois State has MOUs with the following univerisities. Official agreements are yet to come.
