Orientation

All new international scholars must meet with ISSS for an orientation session. Please email arwagon@ilstu.edu shortly after your arrival to schedule your Orientation session.Topics covered include: information about Bloomington-Normal, immigration laws and responsibilities, safety, and health insurance. Visitors are also "checked in" during the orientation for immigration purposes.

Document Collection

Once you have arrived in the U.S. (but prior to your Orientation) please complete the New Scholar Document Collection form. You will need scanned copies or images of the following documents in order to complete the form:

  • Passport
  • J-1 Visa
  • I-94
  • DS-2019
  • Proof of Health Insurance (Be sure to read about options and requirements)
  • Documentation of Health Coverage (the details of your health insurance plan, including specific coverage terms and deductibles)
  • If family members (J-2 dependents) have accompanied you to the U.S., you will also need the above documents for each of J-2 dependent.
